A 21.5-acre farm near Dunmanway in West Cork is proving to be a tempting one and is already under offer, according to selling agent Ernest Forde of Clonakilty-based auctioneers Hodnett Forde Property Services.
The holding is in the townland of Edencurra, approximately 5.5km east of the town of Dunmanway. The property is all in grass, with good road access and will naturally make for convenient additional acreage to any number of holdings in the area.
“It’s an interesting one,” says Ernest. “It’s in a good area with a lot of good farmers around.”
With a guide price in the region of €350,000 (€16,000/acre), it reflects the level of interest in this particular property and in good grassland generally in this part of West Cork — the demand having extended westwards from the Bandon area.
“This piece of ground has been leased for a number of years,” says Ernest, “but well-maintained and farmed by a local farmer … there’s a little bit of land that needs attention on top but it can all be made good.
“There’s a good number of farmers around there that would have been going well for a number of years and this size of property would probably be attractive to a lot of them — particularly for dairy farmers hoping to solve some of their derogation problems.”
