Irish pig prices hold despite EU slide

There was no change to Irish pig price on Friday, with producers reporting quotes ranging from €2.08-€2.12 available from processors in ROI. 

The SPP (Standard Pig Price – no premium) in the UK reported by AHDB currently is £2.03/kg (€2.44/kg), while the APP All Pig Price, the average price for all pigs, is £2.058/kg (€2.47/kg).

The EU average price for week 45 for grade E carcass was €1.95/kg, excluding VAT. This represents a drop of 3% over the past month and is 8% behind last year’s EU average price for the same week. However, it’s up 0.3% on last week’s prices, indicating that prices have steadied across the EU presently.

According to a report by Agritel, December 2024 wheat hit €220/t before falling to close at €218/t, while March 2025 maize fell €1 to €211.25/t. February 2025 rapeseed briefly reached a 20-month high of €548.25/t but ended down €2.25 at €540.75/t.

Meanwhile, Abiove forecasts Brazilian soybean production is forecast at a record 167.7 million tons next year. Ukraine’s agriculture minister expects the next wheat harvest to reach 25 million tons.
