Friday, November 22, saw the successful online auction of a 30.5-acre parcel of land near Tinahely, Co Wicklow.
The property is in the townland of Toberpatrick, 6km from Tinahely and 10km from Aughrim and was sold by Gorey-based auctioneers Quinn Property.
With good road frontage, this convenient land parcel offered some opportunity as it hadn’t been farmed in a number of years.
“It will need some improvement works and re-seeding,” said auctioneer David Quinn in advance of the sale, “But it’s in an area of free-draining soils that are best suited to grassland or forestry production.”
With exceptional levels of interest beforehand, the auction saw a lot of lively bidding. Opening at €100,000, the value quickly passed the €200,000 mark and was declared on the market at €250,000.
After passing the €275,000 mark, it was down to two remaining bidders who went “hammer and tongs” to secure the property beyond this point, according to Mr Quinn.
“Seven bids later, the hammer fell on a price of €289,000. At a level of €9,475 per acre, it was 44.5% over the guide price and the owners were “extremely pleased with what is an outstanding result.”
