Irish Examiner photographer wins prestigious agricultural award

Irish Examiner chief photographer Dan Linehan's picture of a Kerry farmer and his calves was named Best Photograph at this year's Agri Guild Awards.

Mr Linehan's photograph titled 'Playing the Blues' depicts dairy farmer Pat Talbot with three triplet Belgian Blue calves on his farm in Aghadoe, Co Kerry.

Sponsored by FBD Insurance, the awards recognise journalists for their outstanding work in national and regional media, along with consultants in the communications sector, across nine different categories.

The Irish Examiner's Farming Editor Rachel Martin was also shortlisted in the awards for her feature 'Era of the eco cow' - examining the possibility of breeding for lower methane emissions. It was shortlisted for Best Technical Report

The judging panel was chaired by former RTÉ Radio editor Tom McGuire, joined by Maeve Dineen (communications consultant and former journalist), Joe Healy (former IFA president and chair of the Agri-Food Regulator), Michele Filippi (PR consultant), and Anne-Marie Butler (Head of Education, Teagasc).
