Listed with Lisney, a 74-acre holding in mid-Cork is new to the market and attracting a good deal of attention locally and from farther afield.

The farm is in the townland of Glandine, near Bweeng village and about 14km south of Mallow. The property is laid out in two blocks — separate from one another but close by. They can be sold in lots or as one unit.

The second block of land (Lot 2) comprises just over eight acres of land, about 700m west of the main block. It has a long stretch of public road frontage — which gives it a possibility of obtaining planning permission for a house at some point.

“It’s all good quality agricultural land,” says selling agent Laura Pratt of Lisney’s Cork office. “It’s all in grass in a nice elevated position. Lot 2 has a nice southerly aspect with gently sloping topography.”

This part of Munster has a strong dairying tradition going back to the founding years of the nation and before that. It’s a place where the cooperative movement began and where an industrious level of agricultural activity still exists.

“The interest level so far has been strong,” says Ms Pratt. “Land can always take a while to move… we’ve had a particularly good level of interest in Lot 2 (8.05 acres) from farmers local to the area. Potentially, you could get planning permission. There was, we believe, historical planning permission at the front of that lot.”

The farmhouse that was attached to the property is being sold separately, she adds — unsurprising, given the current demand for housing here and elsewhere. 

In the meantime, given its rarity, one would imagine there will continue to be interest in a large parcel of good-quality land such as this one.

The price guide for the 73.81-acre farm is €950,000 (€12,900/acre), with Lot 1 seeking €850,000 and Lot 2 seeking €100,000.
