ICMSA is constantly striving for a fair milk price that reflects world market returns and ensures that dairy farmers are rewarded proportionately for their quality product. We monitor milk and product prices worldwide to have all the data necessary to establish the maximum milk price due to our members on whose behalf we lobby milk processors.
We also monitor milk production costs and team up with our umbrella group at EU level, the European Milk Board (EMB) to calculate exactly the true cost of production on Irish dairy farms.
Our Dairy Committee is made up of 14 dairy farmers covering almost all the dairy co-operatives in the State and they represent the four regions structure of our organisation. We meet with all Co-ops each year to discuss milk price, costs of inputs, environment impacts and assessments amongst many other items including specifically local issues.
As part of the Association’s ongoing rolling-out of services and options, ICMSA have developed an App that outlines the latest news for all farmers, and you don’t need to be a member to access the newsfeed. However, ICMSA members also have a reserved facility to track and compare their milk price each month. It was developed to bring knowledge and transparency to milk pricing and allows every member to see exactly how their prices and milk value would change depending on the Co-op they would supply.
The ICMSA Interactive Milk Price Tracker App takes the form of an input table whereby the member can enter his or her milk values, solid and quality parameters. The App ‘remembers’ those details and will — at a tap — display the prices that that milk supply would have fetched from each Co-op.
We hope that all members will use this feature and gain a greater understanding of the price paid across the country on a comparative basis. This will be your ‘one-stop shop’ for you to compare your milk price on a like-for-like basis on a completely independent and verifiable basis.
To use this App, you will have to download it from your Apple or Android app store for free and enter your ICMSA membership number and ICMSA members’ benefits number for verification. You will be supplied with these numbers from ICMSA Head Office (061-314677) or your local Development Officer.
But the ICMSA App is more than just the ability to follow and compare milk price, it is a source for up-to-date news and commercial offers. We’d encourage all members to avail themselves of this incredibly useful and exclusive tool in their dairy farming enterprises. Because information is power and ICMSA members have access to the best information about Irish milk price available anywhere. Get the App, get the information and get the power.
