The Irish Food Writing Awards took place on Thursday evening in Dublin’s RDS, with Irish Examiner columnist Caroline Hennessy taking home an award for her writing on seafood.
The fourth annual awards saw 20 winners across 21 categories and was judged by the likes of ITV’s Andy Clarke, Tom Parker Bowles and
’s Charlotte Pike, former chair of the UK Guild of Food Writers.Hennessy won the Writing on Seafood Award for her articles

She said: “It's just a fantastic award to bring back to the Irish Examiner. This is the first year that they've had this category. Ireland, as an island nation, it's never really looked to its seas in terms of really fabulous food. We have an amazing network of seafood, seafood producers in the country. We have chefs who are putting them on their menu and doing something very right with them. And try to highlight that, I suppose, is the aim.”
Speaking about her article on sustainability and future-proofing the supply, she said it's about “showcasing what you can achieve in a small restaurant when you work very closely with your producers”.
“When your producers are fishermen, you're into a whole world that not many food producers who actually end up risking their lives in lots of ways to bring home something very good to one place,” she said.
Other winners on the night included The Irish Times’s Corinna Hardgrave, Lilly Higgins and Marie Claire Digby, who received the Outstanding Achievement in Food Writing Award.
Founder of the awards, journalist Suzanne Campbell, said they were pleased with the volume of entries to the competition.
She said: “When Paul O’Connor and I were inspired to set up the awards, having seen how vital food writing was during Covid, and the hard work of the food and drink community continues to educate, entertain and encourage the very best in hospitality and food production.”
