After spending two weeks with the Oppo Find X8 Pro, I’ve had plenty of time to test its impressive camera capabilities, performance, and overall usability. Oppo’s Find X series has always been known for pushing boundaries, particularly in mobile photography. This time, the X8 Pro goes further with two periscope telephoto cameras, a flagship chipset, and a refined design. It's great to see Oppo reenter the European market after a two-year hiatus.
The Find X8 Pro refines the signature Find X aesthetic, featuring a rounded camera bump that’s now thinner and less obtrusive than its predecessors. Despite this improvement, the camera bump still dominates the back design, giving the phone a distinctive yet polarising appearance. The circular bump has two stages – the first layer is glass, and the second is a step to a metal band with vertical ridges. The sharp edges are striking but are also the perfect design to gather lint and pocket debris.
The front and back are Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, with subtle micro-curves along the edges blending seamlessly into the aluminium frame. The phone feels solid and premium in hand and has a well-balanced weight.
It’s interesting that while Apple has removed the mute switch on its iPhones, Oppo has introduced an alert slider on the side. This slider allows you to silence or vibrate the phone or switch to ring mode on the fly.
The new Quick Button is a touch-sensitive strip on the right side that can quickly launch the camera and control zoom. While this works great while holding the phone in landscape mode, I found it awkward to use while holding the phone vertically.
Biometrics are reliable, with an optical fingerprint scanner embedded under the display. It’s fast and responsive, and along with facial recognition, it provides a seamless unlocking experience.
Oppo has also included extra ingress protection, upgrading the water resistance from IP68 to IP69. This added durability provides peace of mind, whether caught in the rain or relaxing near the pool on holidays.
The Find X8 Pro boasts a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display with a high resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. With a pixel density of 450 PPI, everything from text to images looks razor-sharp. It supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, making it a treat for watching videos.
The Find X8 Pro can achieve up to 4,500 nits (1,600 nits peak) when playing back HDR content. Its ProXDR display supports the Ultra HDR standard, ensuring photos look stunning across compatible apps and services.
The LTPO technology allows the refresh rate to adapt dynamically, dropping as low as 1Hz to save battery when idle and then 120Hz for the best performance while scrolling or playing games.
As you’d expect from a flagship, stereo speakers are onboard, delivering excellent loudness and quality. The sound is rich and immersive whether gaming, watching movies, or listening to music.
Running on ColorOS 15 atop Android 15, the software experience is polished and feature-rich. The interface has undergone a minor visual refresh but retains the familiar Oppo ecosystem style.
New AI-based features include tools for photo editing, summarising text, and generating written content. The AI Studio app lets you create stylised images of yourself using generative AI—a fun addition, but you must pay to use the service using cloud credits. Oppo has also stepped up its software support game, promising six years of security patches.
Under the hood, the Find X8 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chipset, built on a 3nm process. It comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. In benchmarks, it delivers next-gen performance. In Geekbench 6, it scored similar to phones with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Day-to-day usage is silky smooth, with apps loading quickly, and multitasking is a joy to use on this phone.
Overall, there are no complaints about the efficiency and performance, as everything from gaming to video editing is snappy, with no signs of stuttering.
The device's 5,910mAh battery provides excellent endurance. During testing, the phone consistently lasted a full day of active use, with solid screen-on times.
Unfortunately, the box does not have a charger, although it supports up to 80W. If you have an older Oppo phone with the 80W SuperVooc charger, you should be able to achieve maximum charge times. Fast wireless charging (50W with the Oppo AirVocc) and reverse wireless charging are supported.
The Find X8 Pro is a camera enthusiast’s dream, featuring a 50MP main camera (f/1.6), a 50MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.0), and two 50MP periscope telephoto cameras (3x (f/2.6) and 6x (f/4.3) zoom). Right from the first snap, I could see that this is a serious camera system.
The main camera produces excellent daytime shots, with super detail, a wide dynamic range, and natural colour reproduction.
Night photography is where this camera shines, capturing well-exposed images with minimal noise and impressive shadow detail.
The 3x telephoto lens delivers sharp, detailed images, particularly in good lighting. Nighttime performance remains strong, with excellent dynamic range and minimal noise.
The 6x telephoto lens offers decent daily results but struggles with sharpness and clarity in challenging lighting conditions. Close-up shots, however, are surprisingly good, thanks to its minimum focusing distance of 29cm.
The ultra-wide lens captures vibrant, distortion-free images with great sharpness and dynamic range. Night performance is commendable, maintaining good detail and colour accuracy.
The 32MP front camera (f/2.4) captures impressive detail with good contrast and colour accuracy.
The camera system is versatile and offers excellent colour consistency between sensors.
The phone supports 4K video at 60 FPS across all cameras and includes Dolby Vision. Video quality is excellent during the day, with vibrant colours, wide dynamic range, and detailed footage. Stabilisation works well, though minor imperfections are noticeable when walking.
The Oppo Find X8 Pro is a feature-packed flagship that excels in photography, design, and battery life. Its innovative dual periscope cameras set it apart, and the Dimensity 9400 chipset ensures powerful performance.
If you prioritise photography and durability in a stylish package, the Find X8 Pro is well worth considering. It’s a strong contender in the high-end smartphone market.
