The Imou Cruiser Dual security camera has a unique dual-lens setup, aiming to cover more ground with fewer devices. Combining a fixed lens and a motorised pan and tilt lens, it is designed to deliver comprehensive surveillance that typically requires multiple cameras. It is available in 6MP and 10MP versions, and I spent a month testing the 6MP model to see if it lives up to its promises.
The Cruiser's big advantage is that it allows for independent monitoring from multiple angles. The fixed lens provides a comprehensive, static view, while the pan and tilt lens offers dynamic coverage, rotating 355° horizontally and tilting 90° vertically. This setup ensures you get an extensive view of your property without needing to install multiple cameras, making it an efficient solution for those looking to monitor larger areas.
During my testing, the pan and tilt lens responded smoothly and quickly, making it easy to adjust the view remotely and monitor any corner of the garden or driveway.
The camera is also IP66-rated for weather resistance, meaning it’s built to withstand rain, wind, and dust. Over the testing period, it endured a couple of wet, windy days without any issues.
The Cruiser doesn’t have a built-in battery. Instead, power is supplied via a DC power adapter. The cable is only three metres long, so you must factor that into your installation and mounting options.
Equipped with four-mode Smart Colour Night Vision, the Cruiser Dual offers clear night-time footage, whether it’s using infrared (B&W), full-colour, or a mixed mode. In total darkness, the full-colour mode uses the built-in spotlight, providing detailed visuals that make it easy to identify people or objects. For extra security, the spotlight can double as a deterrent when detecting motion, flashing to alert potential intruders.
The Cruiser Dual is equipped with Imou Sense technology, which provides advanced human and vehicle detection and works well to reduce false alarms by distinguishing between actual threats and minor disturbances like passing animals or swaying branches. In my experience, alerts were accurate and focused only on genuine activity, which is a massive benefit for anyone tired of unnecessary notifications.
Smart Tracking is another useful feature; it allows the camera to follow moving objects within its range automatically. With two-way talk, you can interact directly with visitors or warn off potential intruders from the app, adding a proactive layer to the security setup.
Thanks to its Wi-Fi connectivity, setting up the Cruiser Dual was straightforward. The WiFi 6 standard is supported but only over 2.4Ghz. The camera also supports a wired Ethernet connection, although this doesn’t include PoE (power over ethernet).
The camera also offers flexibility with cloud storage for remote access, or you can use a micro-SD card for local recording if you prefer to avoid subscription fees. Instant alerts sent to my phone were fast and reliable, informing me of any activity on the property.
The Imou Cruiser Dual is a versatile outdoor security camera with wide-angle coverage, intelligent alerts, and flexible storage options. Though slightly more expensive than basic outdoor cameras, its dual-lens feature makes it worth the investment for the added coverage and reliability.
