Average petrol and diesel prices increased slightly this month despite the cost of crude oil remaining steady compared to November, figures from AA Ireland show.
According to the company’s latest fuel survey, diesel prices have increased by 3c to €1.71 per litre while petrol prices have increased by 1c to €1.74 per litre.
Crude oil prices have remained steady compared to November at around $73 (€69.50) a barrel.
AA Ireland head of marketing Jennifer Kilduff said it was “disappointing to see” fuel prices increase again this month.
The AA also assessed that electric car owners can expect to pay an average of €816.62 per year to cover an average of 17,000km annually.
“For electric car drivers there was also a slight increase in the average yearly costs and the advice would be to continue to look at energy providers' rates and select a plan that best suits your needs,” Ms Kilduff said.
The AA has also advised customers to ensure that their vehicles are properly maintained over the coming weeks given the potentially hazardous driving conditions.
“The basics such as checking your tyre pressure and thread depth, fluid levels, and removing any unnecessary weight such as roof racks can contribute to better fuel efficiency and overall driving performance,” Ms Kilduff added.
