Ciara Crossan has made a business out of Ireland’s love for weddings, despite being single herself.
Her company WeddingDates has survived the 2008 crash, a pandemic and a cost of living crisis but she continues to expand into the UK and evolve the business model.
In the latest and last episode of the season, Ms Crossan spoke to business reporter Cáit Caden on The ieBusiness Podcast about how she has overcome these obstacles.
However, during the course of her 16 year career with WeddingDates, Ms Crossan said her biggest challenge was trying to keep the business going after her twin boys were born premature.
“I was pulled out of the business,” she said.
“I was literally being torn in two. My business really needed me and I needed my business, it’s my livelihood. And my babies needed me in the neonate,” she said.
Ms Crossan, and her sons, have since thrived and the business has gone on to win the Best Hotel Technology Product award at the Boutique Hotelier Awards 2023 in London.
Ms Crossan also spoke about how WeddingDates operates in the wedding industry which is known to charge high rates and how the company has adapted to changing wedding trends both in Ireland and in the UK.
