East Village In Douglas Bar

Long-standing Douglas pub East Village has said it is "time to say goodbye" after operating in the town for more than two decades.

The bar is set to be transferred to new ownership and will close from Monday, January 6 to facilitate a "smooth transition" for the new owners.

In a post shared on its social media, the bar said it will also be hosting a farewell party to celebrate the last 20 years in business.

"All of us here at East Village would like to thank all of our wonderful customers and staff, friends and family, for joining us over the years," the social media post read.

"There’s been many laughs and unforgettable memories the last 20 years but we are sad to announce it’s time to say goodbye.

"We hope you can join us this Saturday for our farewell party and celebrate the East Village with us."

The East Village's current owners are well-known publicans Jon Cronin and Derry O'Regan.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Mr O'Regan said the business is being transferred to new owners who have "big plans" to renovate and relaunch.

"As we are in limbo legal period, we can't disclose too much until January 21, 2025."

"But as we say goodbye and thank you to all our customers and staff, we look forward to visiting the rejuvenated East Village in a few months," Mr O'Regan added.

The owners' portfolio also comprises Tequila Jacks on Lapp's Quay and Paddy the Farmers on Old Blackrock Road. Paddy the Farmers opened in 2015 and Tequila Jack’s in 2017.

The businessmen also owned Soho on Grand Parade which traded for 17 years before changing hands. The venue now trades as Seventy Seven and was said to have cost as much as €5m when reported at the time.
