UK homeware company Dunelm has announced plans to enter the Irish market with the acquisition of the retailer Home Focus for an undisclosed sum.

Home Focus is a soft furnishings brand with 13 stores across the Republic of Ireland employing around 140 people. It also operates online with a home delivery facility as well as a click and reserve option.

Dunelm said the acquisition is an “attractive opportunity” for the company to connect with more customers “by entering a new geography” with a homewares market of more than £1bn (€1.2bn) .

“The acquisition immediately provides the group with good coverage across the Republic of Ireland, through Home Focus' portfolio of smaller stores.

"Dunelm sees potential to offer a broader range of products in Home Focus stores, in line with the group's existing smaller format stores in the UK, giving customers more choice and a more comprehensive offer for the home,” the company said.

The company said the acquisition “will not be material” to its financial performance, adding that it will utilise its existing operations, capabilities and supply partners “to strengthen the customer offer of Home Focus”.

Chief executive of Dunelm, Nick Wilkinson, said they see a “clear opportunity” to introduce “more choice and value into the offer which Home Focus has built for its customers”.
