US personal device firm Whoop is to establish a presence in Limerick where 50 employees will be based.
The Boston company produces wearable fitness and health trackers and is valued at approximately $3.6bn (€3.2bn). Whoop has been based in Ireland for the past four years but its new offices at Gardens International on Henry Street will provide a dedicated hub for the company's Membership Services team.
The office space is designed with future growth in mind, allowing room for future expansion.
"We’ve been operating and recruiting from Ireland for almost four years and we haven’t looked back since," AVP of Membership Services, Tina Stokes said.
"We’re delighted to now be able to provide a central hub in Ireland. It’s a really exciting time for Whoop and we’re thrilled to have a base in Ireland from which we can develop as a company, and a community.”
Gardens International was developed by Limerick Twenty Twenty, a special purpose vehicle of Limerick City and County Council.
Limerick Twenty Twenty CEO David Conway said Whoop is one of the most talked about global companies in the wearable technology space, which is one of the fastest growing technology sectors.
"When we attract a brand like this, a brand also with a huge sustainability focus, [when it] selects Gardens International as its base, it reaffirms that we are meeting our goal of developing spaces capable of attracting some of the best organisations in the world," he said.
