Here is a selection of people starting new roles with Lidl, Eaton, Ulster University, AIB, TEKenable and Virgin Media Television.

Robert Ryan has been named as the new chief executive officer for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland. He takes over the role in October from current CEO, J.P. Scally, who has recently been appointed as CEO of Lidl France, where he is now responsible for more than 1,600 stores and 46,000 employees. Robert Ryan is currently chief customer officer and a board member with for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland. He joined Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland in 2003 and has experience across a variety of roles, from sales operations manager to regional managing director and chief operations officer, appointed to the board in 2018.

Karenann Terrell has been elected to the board of Eaton, the global intelligent power management company with an operation in Dublin. Karenann has retired from her role as chief digital and technology officer of pharma firm GSK. Her prior roles have included chief information officer of Walmart, CIO of Baxter International, as well as senior roles with DaimlerChrysler and General Motors Company. She is a director of software firm UiPath, Fractal Analytics, a provider of AI and advanced analytics, and tech firm Switch. Eaton makes products for data centres, utility, industrial, aerospace and other markets. Eaton was founded in 1911 and is listed on the NYSE.

Tom Gray, group chief technology officer and director of innovation at Kainos, has been appointed as Visiting Professor of AI and Innovation within the School of Computing at Ulster University. A 35-year software veteran, Tom will help the university continue to drive innovation that meets the needs of industry. He will be a mentor and coach to PhD researchers at the university, including those at the Artificial Intelligence Research Centre (AIRC), ensuring that the ongoing research is supporting market-leading, ethical, and responsible AI. The AIRC, which is supported by digital tech firm Kainos, is a research hub for the development of innovative AI technology.

Orlaith Ryan has been appointed as chief customer officer with AIB, and will drive improved customer experience by better understanding customers’ behaviour and attitudes and using those insights to meet their evolving needs. Orlaith will take up the role in October and has a range of experience in the retail finance, insurance, media and telecoms sectors. She joins AIB from Sky Ireland where she spent the last eight years in senior executive positions, most recently as chief commercial officer and previously customer director and head of customer value management. She also has extensive experience in industry-leading customer-facing brands like Vodafone and Aviva.

John Bosworth has been appointed as commercial lead for healthcare, life sciences and MedTech with digital services company TEKenable. He is responsible for managing the HSE partnership and for expanding TEKenable’s business across healthcare, life sciences and medtech. He will identify new opportunities to deliver innovative solutions to new clients. He was previously EMEA sales director for MTech Mobility. He has 25 years of enterprise mobile technology sales experience across several industries including healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing and retail. After a military career, John forged a career in technology sales, building his reputation on customer centricity and developing sustainable long term partnerships.

Ruairi Carroll has been appointed as head of news with Virgin Media Television. His prior roles with VMTV have included news anchor, reporter and most recently executive producer. Ruairi will have responsibility for the newsroom, its three daily bulletins at 12.30, 5.30 and 7.00 and all current affairs output such as The Tonight Show, The Group Chat, and our online platforms. He studied Media Production at Liberties College in Dublin and has nearly 20 years of journalism experience, working for Dublin's FM104 before joining VMTV. "I'm really excited to take on this role. It’s an honour to lead our outstanding team,” Ruairi said.
